In Loving Memory of Gary Wayne Hogue
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary Wayne Hogue, who went home to be with the Lord on July 11, 2026, at the age of 66.
Gary was born on May 3, 1960, in Dallas, Texas, to Eddie Hogue and Velma Price Hogue. He spent much of his life between Quitman and Mineola, Texas, where he built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. He attended First Assembly of God Church in Quitman, and those who knew him will remember a man whose heart was as big as his smile.
For many years, Gary worked as a brickwork laborer, a career that reflected who he was-a man who wasn't afraid of hard work and took pride in building something that would last. He believed in earning an honest living and showed up every day with determination and grit. His work ethic was matched only by his willingness to help others, often putting someone else's needs before his own.
Gary found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, watching wrestling, playing horseshoes or Uno with family and friends, and raising his beloved chickens. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready with a joke or a funny story that could bring laughter to any room. His laughter was contagious, and he had a way of making even the ordinary moments feel special.
More than anything, Gary loved his family. Being a father was one of his greatest blessings, and he was deeply proud of his three daughters, Shonnie Smith (Bryan), Heather Hogue, and Danielle Hogue. He was the kind of dad who offered guidance without judgment, encouragement when it was needed most, and unconditional love through every season of life. His advice came from experience, his wisdom came from the heart, and his daughters always knew they could count on him.
Gary was also a proud and devoted grandfather to Kaitlyn, Donovan, Gabriella, Kiara, Terence, Ari-Anna, Jaida, Hunter, Camie, Kimberly, and Garrett. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life. Whether he was making them laugh with one of his jokes, sharing stories from years gone by, or simply enjoying time together, he made each of them feel deeply loved. The memories they created together will be treasured forever.
Anyone who knew Gary knew he was the kind of man who would truly give you the shirt off his back. If someone was struggling, he was there. If someone needed a helping hand, he never hesitated. His generosity wasn't measured by what he had-it was measured by what he was always willing to give. He lived with compassion, humility, and a servant's heart, touching countless lives through simple acts of kindness.
Gary is survived by his brothers, Joe Hogue, James Hogue, and Christopher Hogue, and his sisters, Barbara Steele, Norma Riddle, Janet Davis as well as many Neices and nephews. He loved his family deeply, and the bond they shared will continue through the stories, laughter, and memories that will be passed down for generations.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing Gary's battle with cancer is over and he is now home with his Lord and Savior. His legacy is not found in the things he owned, but in the lives he shaped, the love he freely gave, the wisdom he shared, and the countless hearts he touched. He taught us that the richest life is one lived with faith, kindness, generosity, and love for family.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gary's life during a visitation on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Mineola, Texas.
Following the service, Gary will be laid to rest at Cottonwood Cemetery in Golden, Texas near his parents.
As we gather to honor Gary's life, we invite everyone who knew and loved him to share their stories, celebrate his journey, and remember the laughter he brought into our lives. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his love will continue to guide us, his laughter will echo in our memories, and the lessons he taught through his words and actions will remain with us forever.
Gary leaves behind a family who loved him dearly and will miss him every day. While our hearts ache in his absence, we are forever grateful for the years we shared, the memories we made, and the example he set. Until we meet again, we will carry his love with us always.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." - Matthew 25:23
