George Ritchie

May 7, 1940 — April 16, 2025

George Ritchie, 84, of Winnsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully with family by his side, on April 16, 2025. Born on May 7, 1940, in Wills Point to Silas Mingus Ritchie and Alice Faye Stricklin Ritchie, George spent his life rooted in the values of faith, family, and service.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a long and dedicated career as a lineman for TP&L, later Oncor. A man of deep community spirit, he was a devoted Boy Scout leader and a proud member of the Wood County Sheriff Posse. He was also a longtime member of Coldwater Baptist Church, where his faith was both lived and shared.

His life was filled with a love for the outdoors and a knack for hands-on work. George had a passion for horseback riding and was an enthusiastic participant in drill teams. He also found joy in fishing and could often be found riding or working on his tractor—activities that brought him peace and pride.

In 2005, George married Marian Taylor, and together they built a family bound by love and shared experiences. One of his most memorable and meaningful adventures was traveling to Romania for missionary work—a testament to his servant’s heart and deep compassion for others.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marian Ritchie; son, E7 Sergeant George Michael Ritchie; daughter, Audra Herring; stepson, Mitchell William Barker and his wife, Kerrie; stepdaughter, Shannon Renee Barker; sister, Alice Fern Self and her husband, Arthur; grandchildren, Taylor Ritchie, E4 Specialist Colton Ritchie, Jessica Herring, Jacqueline Herring, Billy Restelle, and Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Camber Shrum, Braylee Shrum, Addison Weldy, Michael Bradley McNeil and his faithful therapy dog, Rascal

George is preceded in death by the love of his life, Evelyn Marie Clark Ritchie, who passed in 2004; his parents, Silas and Alice Ritchie; and his twin daughters, Crystal Ann Ritchie and Christine Faye Ritchie.

Those who knew George will remember his firm handshake, hearty laugh, tireless work ethic, and unwavering kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and a life lived fully and faithfully
