Glenn Head Smith

October 12, 1923 — December 19, 2011

Glenn Head Smith, Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend, left us on Monday, December 19, 2011. He was born on October 12, 1923 in Waxahachie, Texas to Joe and Ciddie Smith. Glenn served in the Pacific during WWII as a member of the Army Aircorp, where he was a navigator. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 37 years and retired as a Senior Engineer. After returning to his childhood home of Mineola, Texas in 1985, he served two terms on the Mineola City Council and one term as the Mayor of Mineola. During that time he was also active in the First United Methodist Church, where he had grown up. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Martha Ann Waddell Smith, son, Rick Smith and his wife Laura, of Dallas, daughter, Sherri Smith and Ben Oakley of Plano; sisters, Dorothy McCreary and husband Bob of Tyler and Mary Margaret Smith of Tyler; brothers, Don Smith and wife Peggy of Mineola and Lamar Smith and wife Beverly of Ft. Worth. He was the devoted Grandfather to Brittany Laurel Smith of Denver and Erik Joseph Padilla of Richardson; and the proud uncle to several nieces and nephews. Glenn loved to play golf and care for his roses. He was a kind and caring friend to many and loved his family and His Lord.

Pallbearers: Rick Smith, Erik Padilla, Ben Oakley and Rob Waddell.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, 2011, from 10:00 am to 12 noon at Beaty Funeral Home, 5396 S State Highway 37, Mineola, Tx 75773 (903) 569-2611. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 319 N. Pacific, Mineola, TX 75773.
