Homer O’Day Williams, a proud member of God’s holy family, died on October, 19, 2023 in
Mineola TX with his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Jo Williams, at his side. O’Day, as he was
known to all, was born on June 24,1934 to Homer Lee Williams and Lorene Dosier.
O’Day and Martha Jo were blessed with three sons, Brian (Judy) Williams, Kelly (Rhonda)
Williams, and Chris (Cheryl) Williams. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren,
Drew (Kerri) Williams, Alexandria Williams, Jake (Taryn) Williams, Dillon Williams, Kelly
Williams, and Jillian (Luke) Timmer. His legacy will continue through 7 great grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald Lee and Taylor Wayne, and two
granddaughters, Lindsay (Williams) Jones and Angelica Williams.
Throughout his life, O’Day exemplified a commitment to excellence and leadership. As a high
school football player, he achieved All-State honors at Graham High School as a receiver. His
athletic career continued at Texas Christian University where he was selected as an All
Southwest Conference receiver. This pursuit of excellence continued as O’Day spent 40 years
as a highly respected educator. He was the first head football coach at South Garland High
School. He eventually moved from coaching to administration where he impacted the lives of
faculty and students alike. He retired in 1998 after serving as principal of Anson High School,
Anson Tx.
After retirement, O’Day and Martha Jo moved to Mineola where they have since resided. O’Day
was a member of Lake County Bible Church in MIneola. He enjoyed golf, his cat Squirt, and
tending to an immaculate yard.
Per his wishes, a celebration of his life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made to Reflections Hospice of Texas, whose professionals cared for
O’Day so well in his final days. Donations may be sent to 502 East Goode Street, Suite 2D,
