Funeral services for Hubert Wayne Skinner, 86, of Mineola will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at New Hope Baptist Church in Mineola with Bro. Fred Morrow and Bro. Michael Mize officiating.
Visitation will be held before the services beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery, in Mineola, TX.
Hubert was born on May 6, 1929 in Mineola to Harvey and Velma Skinner. He died peacefully at his home in Mineola on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, after a brief battle with bone cancer. He graduated from Mineola High School.
Mr. Skinner was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, always volunteering in any way he could. He worked in the oil field before starting his career with United Gas Pipeline, where he worked for 35 years. He was a corrosion specialist based out of Lafayette, LA. Upon retiring in 1985, he returned to his hometown of Mineola. He enjoyed working during his retirement at Dow Autoplex driving cars, which he dearly loved. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and loved helping others. He enjoyed watching sports.
He was married to Nelda Ann Maberry (deceased) of Mineola, TX, and they had one son James Wayne and two daughters, Rebecca Skinner Comeaux of Arnaudville, LA and Melissa Skinner Vandell of Quitman, TX.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Betty, his two daughters; Rebecca Comeaux and husband Rickie of Arnaudville, LA and Melissa Van Dell and husband Ron of Quitman, TX; three step sons, Robert Cranfill of Spokane, WA, Monte Cranfill of Mineola, Michael Cranfill of Lumberton, TX and one step daughter, Regina Cochran and husband Leroy of Alvin, TX. He had nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He is also survived by one brother James Skinner of Mineola, and four sisters, Mary Kellar of Conroe, TX and Bea Harris, Ann Riddle, and Betty Savage of Hainesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be his step sons, Robert, Monte and Michael Cranfill, grandsons, Wayne Faul and Cameron Brasseaux, and best friend Jim Hanson.
