Ima Black

Ima June Stokes Black, 94 years of age, died peacefully in the arms of Jesus after a brief illness in Tyler, Texas on Thursday, May 30, 2019. June was born on June 11, 1924 in Winnsboro, Texas to Lucy and Wess Stokes and raised in Winnsboro. Her parents preceded her in death as well as her sisters Argeree Clay and Wanda McWhirter, and brothers Alton Stokes and Preston Stokes. Upon graduation in Winnsboro June moved to Dallas where she worked and met John S. Clinkunbroomer. They fell in love and were happily married until his death in 1985. June found a second love in her life when she met and married Joseph Black. Mr. Black passed away in 1998. Making her home in Irving, Texas beginning in 1969, June was a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church, an active member of The Red Hat Society, and The Heritage Center Swingers dance group. She remained in Irving until her recent move to Winnsboro, Texas. Her hobbies included crocheting afghans to share with family, friends and care givers. June enjoyed playing dominos and bingo, fishing and fresh watermelon. She loved the company of the puppy, Clarabelle, at Trinity Missions and the two became close companions. June is survived by her daughter-in-law Sally Harris, grandchildren Susie Fraim, Mark Magalski, Tony Magalski and their families including nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter all from Michigan. Her family from Winnsboro includes niece Cindy Clay Cole, husband Roger, and their children Ronnie Yates, Aimee Smith, Josh Cole and close friend Suzy Doss and family, plus cousins, nieces, nephews and friends she loved so dearly. A celebration of June’s life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beaty Funeral Home located at 816 W. Broadway, Winnsboro, TX 75494. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service begins. Burial will be at the Hopewell Cemetery in Winnsboro.
