Jack Bell Gannaway

Jack Bell Gannaway, 85, went to heaven on July 9, 2013. We celebrate his freedom from the struggles of a long illness. Jack was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas February 4, 1928 to Elbert Aden and Frances Bell Gannaway.

Jack served in the Maritime Service for five years which provided him the opportunity to visit many foreign countries and sail “around the world.” Following that service Jack served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He and his family settled in Dallas where he worked for Sears until his retirement in 1985 when he moved to Winnsboro. Jack was a dedicated Christian and served the Lord through the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro. He was also an active member of the community, volunteering to serve Meals on Wheels for twenty years and also volunteered through the Winnsboro We Win program. Jack was a loyal fan of the Winnsboro Lady Raiders basketball team. Jack was a kind and compassionate son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend, truly caring for others. He had a deep relationship with God and was lovingly committed to his family.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Neta Guthrie Gannaway, sons Steven Jack Gannaway and wife Shelly of Rowlett and Richard Elbert Gannaway and wife Liz of Houston; four grandchildren: Amanda Gannaway of Tampa, Florida, Gordon Gannaway and wife Rachel of Josephine; Carey Redwine and husband Austin of Ocean Isle Beach, NC., Richard Jack Gannaway of Denton; great-grandson Conner Gannaway of Josephine, sister Mariolyn Campbell and husband Glenn of Hide Away Lake; brothers Bill and wife Joan of Winnsboro, and Bobby and wife Dana of Alvarado; brother-in-law Henry Thomas of Dallas; and many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother George and wife Mary Ruth; sister Joyce Thomas and granddaughter Jody Gannaway.

Services for Jack B. Gannaway are scheduled for Saturday, July 13, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Winnsboro, with internment following in Lee Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the services.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund in Winnsboro in lieu of flowers.
