Jack Tompkins of Mineola, TX passed away October 10, 2012 in Tyler TX. He was born February 5, 1929 in Campbell TX to the late Clarence Joe and Bernice Drake Tompkins. He was a member of the Class of 1950 at Texas A & M University. After graduation from Texas A & M, and receiving an Infantry Officers Commission, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a Pioneer Television Farm and Ranch Broadcaster on television stations in Texas and Oklahoma for over 25 years. He founded and was President of an advertising agency in Amarillo TX. He developed the satellite system for selling cattle, producing the first video auction sale of cattle by means of communication satellite in August, 1985. He later managed ranches and at the time of his death was a broker with Ranch Investments, a state wide broker of ranches and hunting properties. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Mineola Masonic Lodge #502. He was also a member of the Mineola Kiwanis Club and the First United Methodist Church, and the Seekers Sunday School class.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, C.J. Tompkins Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marge; two sons, Mike Tompkins and wife Lisa of San Antonio TX, and Kyle Tompkins of Red Lodge, Montana; two daughters, Charlotte Tompkins of Mineola, and Karon Hagood and husband Rocky of Colleyville TX; five grandchildren, Austen Hagood, Kallie Hagood, Laren Tompkins, Taylor Tompkins, and Jason Moeller.
Memorial Service is scheduled October 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, Mineola. Family request in lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P O Box 1890, Amarillo TX 79174.
