James Fred Butcher

January 12, 1929 — January 17, 2009

James Frederick Butcher, age 80 of Mesquite and Winnsboro, passed away on January 17th after a brief illness at Baylor Hospital of Dallas. He was God's servant in many ways. He served his country in Army during the Korean War. He served the citizens of Dallas as a commendable Police Officer for over 33 years retiring as staff sergeant in 1989. He served at two churches, Casa View Baptist in Dallas and Pine Street Baptist in Winnsboro as a mentor to young men in RA's, a carpenter and cook for Baptist Men and as a voice in the choir. He served his family well as an active, loving, involved husband and father. He served his friends well and was well loved by all who got to know him. He was born in Greenville, Tx. He graduated from Garland High School in 1946. He also attended North Texas State University until his call to serve in the army. He was a man of dignity, honor and integrity. He was also a man of great humor and a wondrous, spellbinding storyteller. He loved music, reading and tinkering with cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Frederick Butcher and Edith Roach Butcher and his loving wife of 55 years Elizabeth Anne Blassingame Butcher. He is survived by his son, James Cecil Butcher; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Butcher Haag and Kevin C. Haag; grandchildren, Ian Vaughan, Ruben Trevino, Rachel Goree, Jamie Trevino, Raymond Trevino and Katy Haag. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren; Reuben Trevino and Marianne Hauck and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 6 to 8pm; funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21st at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Tx., Bro. Charles Ethridge officiating. Interment will follow at Lee Cemetery on Hwy 37 S. in Winnsboro. Pallbearers: Martin Trevino, Billy Goree, Ian Vaughan, Ruben Trevino, Raymond Trevino, and Sam Lomax
