We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of James McElhaney Carson III, affectionately known as "Mac," who left us on September 20, 2024, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born in Kershaw, South Carolina, Mac graduated from Kershaw High School before pursuing a degree in Textile Manufacturing at Clemson University. A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, he later dedicated his career to American Airlines, where he worked until his retirement.
Mac was a man of fairness, integrity, and generosity. His kindness and lasting impact will be felt by all who crossed his path. He had a passion for reading, enjoyed fishing, playing poker, and cheering for his favorite sports teams. He loved spending time in his yard and shared a special bond with his dogs. Known for his sense of humor, he brought joy to those around him.
He cherished his home and devoted himself to his family, whom he cared for deeply. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Elizabeth Fowler Carson. Mac is survived by his son, James M. Carson, Jr. and his wife, Vicki, of Denton; daughters, Janet Elise Carson Levers of Arlington, Texas, Beth Bryan Koslucher of Emory, Texas, and Laura Ann Buuck and her husband, Jack, of Yantis, Texas; brothers Martin Banks Carson and his wife, Valerie, of Marietta, Georgia, and Kenneth Welch Carson and his wife, Sybil, of Camden, South Carolina; as well as twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were our anchor in difficult times, our source of clarity in a chaotic world, and always provided us with sound advice without judgment. You shaped who we are today. As we celebrate your life, we are filled with sorrow at your passing. Now, after a remarkable journey, you are at peace—dancing with your wife and fishing with Ted.
You lived your life to the fullest and on your own terms, leaving this world just as you lived. We are left to grieve and remember. Fly high, Dad. We love you.
— Jim, Jan, Beth, and Laura.
