A celebration of life for Wendle Heard of Coke, Texas, will be held on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. before the service. Wendle Heard was born in Yantis, Texas on November 5, 1939 to the late James Chester and Opal Marie (Turner) Heard. Mr. Heard finished his 81-year journey on July 8, 2021. Mr. Heard was a 1957 graduate of Yantis High School and served his country he loved in the U.S. Coast Guard. He graduated from Abilene Christian University with a degree in psychology. Wendle retired as a police officer for the Dallas Police Department after 21 years. Mr. Heard married Martha Ann Attaway on March 1, 1959 in Hugo, Oklahoma and the two of them shared 62 beautiful years together. Mr. and Mrs. Heard had resided in the Coke community for the past 3 years having lived in Yantis previously for 30 years. Wendle was a faithful member of Black Oak Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Wayne Heard. Those Wendle leaves behind to cherish his memories are his wife Martha Ann Heard; daughter Debra Gossett and husband Timothy; sister Patricia Grayson; grandchildren Victoria Ann Hunt and husband Chad, Chad Cavett, Truitt Gossett and wife Michelle, Taylor Rhodes and husband Dusty; great-grandchildren Calle Ann Hunt, J.L. Hunt, Knox Rhodes; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Black Oak Baptist Building Fund or Black Oak Cemetery P.O. Box 24 Como, Texas 75431.
