James R. "Jim" Nicholson, 87, of Mineola, Texas, passed away on March 4, 2026. He was born on July 3, 1938, to J.T. and Katherine Nicholson in Lexington, Kentucky, where he was raised and spent his early years.
Jim served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he attended Tennessee Tech and went on to build a successful career as a Safety Director with Olin Corporation, International Paper, and Temple Inland. In the late 1980s, Jim shifted careers and began a second successful chapter as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, where he was known for his integrity and dedication to helping others.
Jim was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord, his family, his church, and the fellowship of good friends. He lived with a steady faith and a kind spirit, always enjoying meaningful conversation, laughter, and time spent with those he cared about most. His life was marked by love, generosity, and a genuine interest in others.
He had a passion for restoring antique cars and found great joy in adventure. He especially enjoyed sailing in the Caribbean and the annual family trips to Panama City Beach for over 30 years, where he formed dear friendships that became extended family. He also loved trail rides on horseback through places like Big Bend in Texas, as well as the mountains and plains of Montana and Wyoming. These experiences brought him great happiness and created lasting memories for those who shared them with him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Nicholson; his children, Jason Calhoun and spouse Pablo, Jana Shaw and spouse Marc, Jillian Henderson, Jamie Hortman and spouse Skipper; and his cherished grandchildren, Jacob Haggerton and spouse Tara, Kemper Calhoun, and Jenna Haggerton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.T. Nicholson and Katherine Nicholson.
Jim's legacy of faith, love, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The memories he created and the lives he touched will remain a lasting blessing.
"Well done, good and faithful servant"
