Jim “James” Sparks died peacefully in Garland, Tx on May 22, 2016 at the age of 80.
Jim graduated from Como High School in 1954. He attended East Texas State Univ. (A&M Commerce) with a Bachelor of Science in Technical Agriculture and a Minor in Science 1961. From 1956 to 1958 he worked second shift at Temco in Greenville, TX as a sheet metal installer while attending college.
In 1958-1959, Jim and his wife moved to Crystal City, Tx where he taught Science, History, Health and had a home room in Jr. High School. In 1959-1961, he was drafted into the US Army. He was teletype communications 178 signal corp. squad leader responsible for 12 men and equipment. In 1962, he began his career at Texins Credit Union (currently Texans Credit Union.) After various positions he worked his way up to Senior Vice President of Lending.
He also taught basic principals of credit union management at Eastfield Jr. College. He also served as Director of The Dallas Chapter of Credit Unions for 3 years and served as President in 1971.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Otis and Mary Edith Sparks of Como, TX.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Frances Berylene Sparks, and his beautiful daughters Kimberley Macura and Ashly Johnson and her husband Derrick Johnson. His grandsons Kyle Luna, and Jacob Macura. His great granddaughters Kaila and Dakota Johnson.
Visitations will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Restland Funeral Home and Thursday, May 26, 2016 6-8 PM at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Texas. Graveside service will be held for all friends and family at Smyrna Cemetery, Winnsboro, TX Friday, May 27th at 11AM.
