James D Wood

January 22, 1938 — October 19, 2021

FORT WORTH - James was born at his parents home in Cleburne. After graduating from Tech in Fort Worth, he joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Macon where he served from 1955-1959. Returning home he attended Texas Wesleyan. And then found his niche in the restaurant business, working for mostly Kips and Pancho's. For the rest of his work life, he was self employed and had businesses with whatever caught his eye at the time.

He and Pat were married in 2002 and they enjoyed friends, family and traveling by car, train, plane, and taking lots of cruises. His best trip was always the one he was on. His last trip was to Ruidoso, one of his favorite places, in September.

In 2005, they moved to Mineola for 10 years. James was involved in the First United Methodist Church serving on various committees, Kiwanis and he served on the Board of the Senior Citizens Center.

Wheels were his thing. His idea of cars and motorcycles was buy them, enjoy them and then trade them. As often as possible. He enjoyed motorcycle rides, especially to Arkansas, with his buds and collecting classic cars which involved car shows and trips. And anyone who was around him knew he never met a dog or vehicle that he didn't like. Second only to vehicles was his yard which was always perfect.

In 2015, he moved back to Fort Worth to be closer to family and he and Pat picked up life where they left it. Where are we going to eat today was at the top of his list each day, Ridglea Country Club became the place to spend time with friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Murrell and Floy Walker Wood; sister, Barbara Taylor, mother-in-law; Jean Thurman.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; children and stepchildren, Karen, Jo, Michelle, Stephanie, Barbara, Daniel and wife; four grand-children, Mercedes, Katy, Lloyd and Todd; and two great-grandchildren, Mac and Audrey.
