It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Jana Lou Vanderslice, beloved sister, esteemed educator, and cherished friend, who left this world peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 58. Born on September 22, 1967, in Arlington, Texas, Jana touched the lives of many through her dedication to education and her unwavering compassion for her students.
Jana obtained her Doctorate from Capella University and served as a professor at the University of Texas at Tyler and later at Truman State University in Missouri. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she also dedicated her career to serving as a school teacher and school counselor. She was an active member of the Sigma Kappa sorority during her time at Baylor University, where she forged lifelong friendships and nurtured her love for education.
In addition to her remarkable career, Jana found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, sports, and immersing herself in the written word, often sharing her passions with those around her.
Jana is survived by her loving brother, Jeff Vanderslice, and aunt, Norma McViker, and seven cousins, who will dearly miss her presence and spirit.
Jana was preceded in death by her parents, Burt Vanderslice and Gearldine Belcher Vanderslice
The family invites all those who knew and loved Jana to join them in celebrating her life. A visitation will be held at Green Acres Baptist Church on November 8, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. that same day. Jana will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in Mineola, Texas.
In honoring Jana's legacy, we invite everyone to come together to remember her warmth, intellect, and the indelible mark she made on the lives of countless individuals. May she rest in peace.
