Janie Ruth Hazlewood

Mrs. Janie Ruth Hazlewood, age 89 of Emory, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021 in Sulphur Springs. She was born on September 22, 1932 in Arbala, Texas to the late Leslie Hendricks and Lorene Wesson Hendricks.

Janie was a member of The House of Prayer Church in Emory. She loved the Lord and spent her life serving others. She enjoyed cooking and it gave her great joy to prepare special dishes for her loved ones. There was always a fight to be the first one to get to her famous banana pudding. She loved to fish and was always ready for a trip to the casino. She perfected the art of being a mother and grandmother, and there was nothing she wouldn't do for her family. She lived life to the fullest and shared her love with many friends and family.

Janie was a retired secretary. She spent her career working at Perrin Air Force Base, Blue Cross Blue Shield, General Cable and Soil Conservation Service. She was a longtime volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank in Bonham and served as activity director at Steamboat Shores on Lake Fork.

Mrs. Hazlewood was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herman Earl Hazlewood, brothers, Ben Thomas Hendricks and Joe Hendricks; son, Scott Hazlewood, daughter, Sandy Kern, grandson, Cody Horton and great grandson, Seth Carter.

She is survived by her son, Randy Hazlewood of Emory; daughters, Colleen Carson and husband, EJ of Omaha, TX and Cindy Howard and husband, Marty of Bonham; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hazlewood of Bonham; special friends, Peggy and Claude McAdams; grandchildren, Shana Carter and husband, Bud, Shelly Knight and husband, Jeff, Johnathan Hazlewood and wife, Amy, Christina Kersey, Dustin Whitley and Tosha, Hailey Hazlewood, Brittany Hazlewood, Summer Vissage and husband, Brandon, Kelli Blackwell and husband, Scott, Kyle Horton and fiance, Brandi, Jeremy Howard, Joseph Howard and wife, Jennifer; great grandchildren, John Cody Carter, Brady Carter, Thomas Knight, Ryan Knight, Allison Hazlewood, Avery Hazlewood, Jackson Kersey, Christopher Kersey, Brynlee Owens, Katon Lafoy, Brayden Hansen, Arilyn Vissage, Trezdon Vissage, Cody Wes Horton, Sadie Howard, Hailey Howard, Hunter Howard, Avery Coker, Ashton Balvin, Aydan Balvin; great-great grandchild, Myles Malone; special grandchildren, Steven Mooney, Samantha Mooney, Nolan and Bronson; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 at Gafford Chapel near Sulphur Springs at 2:00 pm with Bro. Kenneth Ismahal conducting. John Hazlewood, Kyle Horton, John Cody Carter, Dustin Whitley, Jackson Kersey, Christopher Kersey, Steven Mooney will serve as honorary pallbearers.
