Jaymie Sue Drummond McCorkle died peacefully in the company of her family in Brentwood, Tennessee on November 6, 2012. Born to Garland and Lula Strickland Drummond on August 10, 1931 in Hampton, Arkansas, Sue McCorkle has lived in Mineola, Texas since 1961.
Sue was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Carter McCorkle in 1993. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Suzan and Michael Hindman, Brentwood, Tennessee and by son and daughter-in-law Craig and Patty McCorkle, Lake Dallas, Texas.
Sue is also survived by granddaughters, Michele Hindman (Russ) Emrath and children Jake and Natalie, Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina and Melissa Hindman, Chicago, Illinois; and by grandsons, Colte (Stephanie) McCorkle and daughter Phoebe, Dallas, Texas and Connor McCorkle, also of Dallas.
Sue McCorkle graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1950. Married to Carter in 1951, she joined her husband in Chateauroux, France where he was stationed with the US Air Force. In 1954, they returned to the US where Carter completed his medical training in Independence, Missouri and sue taught Home Economics. In 1961, Carter began his medical practice in Mineola. Together, they owned Wolfe Drug Store, Mineola General Hospital and Hillview Nursing Home. Sue service as Administrator of Hillview for 20 years.
Sue was an astute business administrator. However, she will be remembered best as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. And, she will also be remembered as a wonderful baker. The family will continue to be blessed by a cache of frozen peach cobblers she has left behind.
