Jerry Ray Jones

Jerry Ray Jones, Sr., 73, of Cumby, Texas, passed away in his home surrounded by his devoted and loving family on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Jerry was born to Edgar and Laverne (Rushing) Jones in Winnsboro, Texas on April 9, 1947. He wasn't a complicated man but one who had simple pleasures. Jerry loved to drop a fishing line in the lake, enjoy the serenity of nature and be in the company of his family and friends. Mr. Jones served with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Jerry was awarded the good conduct medal and the Purple Heart while serving in the Army. He married the love of his life Clara (Shastid) Jones on March 12, 1982, and the two of them enjoyed over 38 years as husband and wife. Jerry worked many years as an operator in the oil fields and was a licensed wastewater operator for the city of Cumby. Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Laverne Jones; brother Gwen Jones and twin sister Linda Page. He is survived by his wife Clara Jones; sons Jerry Jones, Jr. and Daniel Jones; daughter Karrie Chambers and her husband Stuart; sister Wanda Weems, sister Vicki Tyler and her husband Jeff; step-brother Charles Parks; grandchildren Christian Jones, Shyann Jones, Chelsea Hudson, Kaylee Busby, Dawson McLaughlin, John Morgan, Taylor Morgan, Alisha Jones, Hannah Blosser, Sammy Morris, Kolt Jones and Joshua Jones; 2 great-grandchildren Bentley Hall and Annabell Hall. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021 in Smyrna Cemetery-Winnsboro, Texas. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Weems, Corey Weems, John Weems, Steve Carter, Brandon Horn, Anthony Winstead and Freddy Lynn.
