Jewel Horton

Mrs. Jewel Horton, age 83, of Mineola passed away August 21, 2019. Jewel was born December 15, 1935 in Mira, Louisiana to the late Jasper Martin and Sugar Lee Kennedy Martin. Jewel and her twin were the third born of fifteen children. In 1954, Jewel married Eddie Horton, together they raised six children. Jewel was a devoted Christian who accepted Christ into her heart at a young age while attending St. Mark Baptist Church in Mira, Louisiana. While living in Mineola Jewel was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church. She was loving and strong-willed and loved hosting family and community functions. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Sugar Martin; daughter, Pamela Horton; 12 siblings; great-grandson, Tremario Brown; son-in-law, Mayfield Smith and brother-in-law, Troy Holmes. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Eddie Horton; sons, Calvin Horton and Alex Horton; daughters, Sheron Horton, Eddie J Horton and Susan Smith; sisters Maggie Holmes and Shirley Jean Duncan and husband, Bobby; grandchildren, Justin Horton and wife, Erin, Cherish Horton, Marlon Horton, Monika Horton, Orlando Horton, Cherrika Horton, Delisa Smith, Reginald Smith, Mayfield Roland Smith IV; and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31st, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Beaty Funeral Home, 5320 S. State Hwy. 37 Mineola, TX 75773. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 31st, 2019 at Beaty Funeral Home 5320 S. State Hwy. 37 Mineola, TX 75773 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Garden in Mineola.
