Jimmy D. Rushing, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on March 19, 1936, in Sweetwater, Texas, to the late Hershel and Mattie Horrell Rushing.
Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years before pursuing becoming a barber. After attending barber school in Dallas, he went on to dedicate more than six decades to serving the Mineola community-owning several businesses and working as a barber for 61 years, building countless friendships one haircut at a time.
A man deeply involved in his community, Jimmy was one of the founding members of the Mineola Rodeo and took great pride in his hometown. His hard work and commitment were recognized when he received the Texas Treasure Award from the State of Texas in 2014 and the Lifetime Entrepreneur Award from the Mineola Chamber of Commerce in 2018.
On August 9, 1957, Jimmy married the love of his life, Nita Henry, and together they shared 68 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and family.
Jimmy loved fishing, gambling, and the simple joys of life, especially those spent with his family and friends. He was known for his humor, warmth, and the steady kindness that defined him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Nita Rushing; his son Tim and wife Mercy, daughter Kim Galyean and husband Bill, daughter Jill Hudson and husband Dan; grandchildren April Rushing, Barb Pritchett, Megan Smith and husband Brady Smith, Bray Rushing, Morgan Hearn and husband Doug, and Lane Hudson; and great-grandchildren T.J., Val, Lilly, John Moreland, Cooper, Madi, Shorty, and Maggie Smith, and Emmie Hearn. Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by his parents Hershel and Mattie Rushing, and brothers Paul, Larry, and Terry Rushing.
Jimmy's legacy of love, laughter, and community will live on through the many lives he touched.
The family thanks you for your love and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mineola Historical Museum.
