Joe Bob Smith

Joe Bob Smith, age 77, died Sunday, December 18, 2011 in Quitman, Texas. He was born on Saturday, October 27, 1934 in Quitman, Texas (Cartwright) to the late William Clyde and Goldie Kirkpatrick Smith. He was the State Champion Hurdler for Mineola ISD. He graduated from the University of Houston where he played football. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions. He played in Canada for the Canadian Football League.

He is survived by his wife, Sara Smith; a son, David Smith of The Woodlands, Texas; two daughters, Debra Smith of Mineola and Donece Smith also of Mineola; a sister, Billie Shirey of Longview, Texas; three grandchildren, Austin Smith, Kennedy Smith and Shauna Smith; and one great-grandchild, Cash Smith.

A graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 12:00 PM with David Smith officiating.
