John Vernon Lambert
March 11, 1939 – February 12, 2025
John Vernon Lambert, 85, of Mineola, Texas, passed away on February 12, 2025. He was born on March 11, 1939, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Lossie and Bessie Lambert.
A proud patriot, John honorably served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service continued throughout his career as a Master Locksmith and Vocational Instructor for the State of California. He was an active member of the American Legion in Lindale, the Mineola Marine Corps League, and the ELKS Lodge, always finding ways to give back to his community.
John was a dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Mineola. He found great joy in traveling, camping, and working on jigsaw puzzles, but his greatest love was the time spent with family and friends. A true social butterfly, he cherished lively poker nights with friends, often lasting late into the night over root beer floats. He also loved being out on the lake, making cherished memories with his grandchildren on his boat. John had a special bond with his dogs—Buddy, Maverick, Dynamite, and Little Joe—whom he enjoyed training to perform tricks, bringing joy to all who watched.
On October 19, 1985, he married the love of his life, Patricia Gilbert Lambert, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and adventure.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lambert; children, John A. Lambert, James T. Mortensen, Robert Mortensen, William Hartwell, Shirley Lambert, Terri Soto and her husband, Oscar, Shelly Long and her husband, Mitchel; brother, Edwin Lambert; 25 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Unfried, as well as two brothers and two sisters.
John’s legacy of love, service, and friendship will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
