John Michael Moore of Houston, Texas was born July 9th, 1970 in Methodist Hospital Downtown and passed away July 1, 2014 at Methodist Hospital Downtown after suffering complications from an aortic dissection. He is preceded in death by grandparents Carney and Lois Johnson, Trudeaux and Louise Moore as well as his father Samuel Lee Moore. He is survived by; his wife Susan Nolen Moore, children Jacqueline Elizabeth Moore and Trudeaux McKay Moore, mother, Carolyn Johnson Moore, sister Samantha Lee Moore and her two children, brother Scott Edward Moore and his wife Emily Hergenrader Moore and their three children.
Michael was referred to as “Big Red” for his 6’6” large stature and bright red hair. He was a member of the 1989 graduating class of Stratford High School in Spring Branch ISD and an offensive lineman for the Spartan football team playing for Coach Oscar Cripps in the State Championship. He then went on to attend Texas Tech University earning a degree in International Economics and received a full five-year scholarship as an offensive lineman with the Red Raider football team. Michael was a three-year letter winner at Tech in football and was an active member of the Texas Tech Letterman’s Association.
Michael’s larger than life personality mirrored his physical size, everyone who knew him enjoyed his company and presence. He joked with friends that he was the “quintessential Texas businessman,” having formed several successful businesses with some of his closest friends for over twenty years. Michael’s tenacity and drive as well as his boisterous spirit will be greatly missed by his partners and co-workers.
On February 5, 2000 Michael married his beloved wife, Susan Nolen, of Houston at St. Paul’s Methodist Church downtown. The couple’s twins were born in 2003 and the family moved to the Katy community west of Houston. Michael thrived in leadership roles both in business and in volunteering with his children’s activities. He served on the Board of Directors for Katy Youth Football and was head coach for the KYF Broncos football team as well as serving as a Den Leader for the Cub Scout Troop #209. Michael also greatly enjoyed attending his childhood church home with his wife and children at Tallowood Baptist Church.
Mr. Moore’s funeral service will be held in Winnsboro, Texas where he and his wife have enjoyed peaceful getaways next to his family’s farm. The funeral service will be conducted by Beaty Funeral Home at Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro, TX Saturday July 5 at 11:00am. Memorial Services for John Michael Moore will be held at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, July 8th at 1:00pm.
