Graveside services for Johnnie Mullinax Johnson, 85, of Athens were held Wednesday June 17 at Good Hope Cemetery in Franklin, Co. Texas with the Rev. Henry Suche officiating and under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home Inc. Mrs. Johnson passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, in Tyler at the age of 85. She was born on March 30, 1924 in Winnsboro, Texas, to the late Claxton Napolean Mullinax and Essie Ruth Shelby Mullinax. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Christian Church in Athens, past president of the Athens Genealogy Association, and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. With her late husband she co-founded the Pea Picker Newspaper in Athens and in 1975 they opened the Pea Picker Bookstores in Athens and Tyler. She authored three published genealogy books of the Shelby Family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Dan A. Johnson; brother, Otto B. Mullinax; and two sisters, Xelma Varley and Verlie Shock. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jon Dan and Sharon Johnson of Whitehouse; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Pat Ragsdale of Winnsboro; sister-in-law, Ernestine Mullinax of Dallas; grandchildren, Ken Ragsdale and wife Elaina, Patti Mayberry and husband Bert, Danielle Bolanowski and husband David, Christopher Dan Johnson; great-grandchildren, Conner Ragsdale, Cason Ragsdale, Caitlin Johnson, Grayson Mayberry and Greenlee Mayberry.
