Judy Fay Fitzgerald

March 14, 1955 — April 3, 2024

Judy Fay Fitzgerald, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and esteemed nurse, passed away on April 3, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on March 14, 1955, in Greenville, Texas, Judy was the daughter of James B. Mitchell and Jean Mitchell. She spent her formative years in Emory, Texas, where she attended Quitman High School before pursuing her higher education at Tyler Junior College, where she earned her Associates of Nursing degree.

With a career spanning over 40 years, Judy dedicated herself to nursing, displaying unwavering compassion, humor, and love for her patients and colleagues. Her diverse experiences ranged from primary care to home health, emergency room, psychiatric care, and hospice. Regardless of the setting, Judy's dedication to her profession shone brightly, touching the lives of countless individuals in need.

Outside of her professional life, Judy was deeply rooted in her faith as a member of the Southern Baptist Church. She found joy in various activities, including traveling, watching Baylor Women's basketball, indulging in true crime podcasts and shows, and cherishing moments with her family, friends, and beloved dogs.

On May 29, 1979, Judy married the love of her life, Doyle Fitzgerald, with whom she shared many cherished memories until his passing in 2011. Together, they raised a loving family and created a home filled with laughter and love.

Judy's adventurous spirit and fearlessness were evident throughout her life. One memorable incident occurred during a family trip to Minnesota when she fearlessly rode a snowmobile with Nick. Despite the snowmobile flipping and rolling over her, Judy's resilience and determination saw her quickly back on her feet, ready to embrace life's challenges with a smile.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Angela Fitzgerald, her granddaughter Reba Beaver, her great-grandson Camden Hackett, her dear friend and fellow nurse Glenda Vaughn, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Doyle Fitzgerald, her mother Jean Mitchell, her brother "Pug" Mitchell, her sister Cynthia Chavez, and her grandparents Myrtis and Chuck Byram.

In memory of Judy and her passion for animals, the family requests donations or acts of kindness to local animal shelters, as it would honor her legacy and bring a smile to her face.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and zest for life. Her legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
