Mr. Barnett died Dec. 8, 2010, in Tyler. He was born Sept. 17, 1930, in Mineola and had lived in Tyler since 1985. He served in the Army during the Korean War, retired as sales/marketing manager from Mountain Bell Telephone in El Paso and was a Baptist. He was former commander and vice-commander of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius P. Barnett and Era Stewart Barnett; by one son, Julius Eugene "Buddy" Barnett; by a great-grandchild, Bobby Jim Benitez; by the mother of his children, Patsy Lou Barnett; and by former wife, Wilma June Barnett.
Survivors include daughter, Vicki Pace and husband David, Whitehouse; daughter-in-law, Darlene Kielman and husband Bob; sister, Marian Kaplita; sisters-in-law, Nancy Elston and Mary Ann Hinson; brother-in-law, Victor Boozer; grandchildren, Candie Johnson, Amanda Rich and husband Jeremy, Matthew Pace, Tracy Pace, David "JR" Pace, Joshua Kielman, Jonathon Kielman, Courtney Klepfer, Cory Schmoker and Zach Reese; great-grandchildren, Anthony Kielman, Chelsea Benitez, Cece Pace and one to be born in January, Cooper Riley Rich; and great-great-grandchild, Bri-Ann Skelton.
Pallbearers are Wayne Elston, Cory Boozer, Scott Elston, Brian Elston, Joshua Kielman and Jonathon Kielman; and honorary pallbearers are Anthony Kielman and Matthew Pace.
