Kenneth Bryant Cook

Mr. Kenneth Bryant Cook, age 78 of Winnsboro, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010 in Winnsboro. He was born January 15, 1932 in San Antonio to the late Allen Guthrie and Vina Bryant Cook. They moved to Dallas in 1946 where he attended Woodrow Wilson High School. He was employed by the Baker Hotel garage when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951. He received training at Ft. Eustis, VA before serving front line duty in Korea with the 45th Infantry Division. He received the American Spirit Honor Medal, the Purple Heart, two Bronze Star Medals; one for bravery and one for Meritorious service, Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge. He returned to Ft. Hood , Texas in 1953 and was with the 1st Armored Division until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was employed at Chance Vought Corp. when he married Jo Nell Ballard on December 9, 1955. They moved to Winnsboro in 1963 where he was employed by Allen Cook Chevrolet-Buick until his retirement. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Winnsboro where he served as a teacher, song leader, bookkeeper, and an elder until he became disabled. He was preceded in death by a sister, LaVerne Johnson; and brother, Allen Cook. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jo Nell Cook of Winnsboro; sons, Steven Cook and wife Stacy of Mesquite, Mark Cook and wife Leslie and David Cook and wife Krystal of Winnsboro; grandchildren, Katie Foster and husband Jake of Brownsboro, Morgan Cook of Mineola, Meredith and Matthew Cook of Mesquite, Adam, Abigail, and Addyson Cook of Winnsboro; great-grandson, Landry Jackson Foster of Brownsboro; brother, Paul Cook and wife Janette of Omaha, TX., sister, Mary Cook of Bullard; sister-in-law, Wanda Cook of Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
