Larry J. Ellison

May 2, 1943 — July 20, 2024

Larry J. Ellison, born on May 2, 1943, in Palestine, Texas, peacefully departed this world on July 20, 2024. He grew up with a strong belief in family, values, and hard work. On June 6, 1964, Larry married the love of his life, Barbara Taylor. Together, they built a legacy that spanned generations. Their 60 years of unwavering love and commitment blessed them with two children, LaDonna Galloway and Michael Ellison. Larry was an Eagle Scout, avid hunter and held a private pilots license with over 3,000 flight hours.


Larry attended the University of Houston for two years before transferring to Sam Houston State University where he was a proud graduate, earning a bachelor's degree in accounting. His career path led him to the insurance industry, where he and Barbara founded Ellison Insurance in Winnsboro, Texas. Alongside his professional endeavors, Larry embraced the family tradition of ranching, transitioning from dairy to beef cattle with great passion.


Larry was a pillar of the community, dedicated to making it a better place for everyone. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, a past city council member for years and Mayor pro tem, president of the Cornersville Water Supply, and served on both the airport board and the Harmony Cemetery Foundation board. Larry’s commitment to community service was evident in all his actions.


Known for his friendly demeanor and great sense of humor, Larry was a joy to be around. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Ellison; daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna and Jeffrey Galloway; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jaime Ellison; sister, Barbara McClaid; brother, Brent Ellison; grandchildren, Raven Bennett, Dillon Weems and Natalie, Cody Ellison, Ryder Ellison, and Mackena Ellison; and great-grandchildren, Corbin Bennett, Aubree Weems, Emma Bennett, Kaden Weems, and Avery Weems. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Willie and Minnie Stanley; parents, T.J. and Dorothy Ellison, and his great-granddaughter, Adyn Michelle Bennett.


Pallbearers will be Head Pallbearer Dillon Weems, Cody Ellison, Ryder Ellison, Rodney Weems, Gary Keeble, and Chet Phillips.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Larry's legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will forever be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
