Mrs. Linda Annett Jones, age 73, passed peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 15, 2023, with her loving, loyal husband, Jerry, at her side.
Linda was born on June 7, 1950, in Alexander City, Alabama, to the late James Milner and Evie Sharp Milner. She grew up surrounded by her siblings Melvin Milner (deceased) and sister Brenda Forga in Kermit, Texas.
After graduating high school, Linda left Kermit for Grand Prairie, where she carved out her life for herself, eventually marrying the love of her life, Jerry Jones, in 1979. Together, they worked for decades at GTE/Verizon, raised three children—Rex(deceased), Amy, and Aaron—and built a life worth cherishing.
Throughout her career, Linda was known as a dedicated hard worker with a relentless spirit and boundless compassion for others. She was constantly helping others, teaching those who’d listen, and being an invaluable office member. In her free time, she could be found tending her garden, designing silk flower arrangements, and making the world’s most delicious fudge.
A life of so much relentless dedication was cut short in February of 2000, however, when Linda suffered a massive stroke at 6am on a Thursday shortly before the birth of her first grandchild. As a result of the stroke, Linda was paralyzed on the right side of her body with severe speech and reading impediments that would linger for the rest of her life. She would also suffer continuous complications of her injuries—getting close to death countless times in the following years.
Yet, despite all of this, Linda would continue to do that which she had always done: persist. For twenty-three years—far longer than any doctor, nurse, or family member had dared to hope—Linda would continue to persist. Through all her illnesses and complications, she remained a woman of determination and resilience and got to see every one of her grandchildren into their teen years and beyond. And she got to see her beloved husband, the man who stayed loyally by her side this whole time, into their 70s and buy the retirement home on the lake they’d always dreamed of.
So when Linda passed this Thursday, it was not a surprise for her family and friends. They’d expected to lose her twenty-three years ago. And every year since. But Linda managed to claim out more than two decades with her family. She saw them grow and flourish, loved them dearly, and held true in a way that others can only imagine. She will be missed dearly for the woman she was and remained to be throughout her life.
Survivors include her loving husband, Jerry Jones of Emory; son, Aaron Jones (Serena) of Denton; daughter, Amy Caldwell (Richard) of Van Alstyne; daughter-in-law, Angelique Harbin of Grand Prairie; sister, Brenda Forga (John) of Wolfe City along with a grandson and granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her son, Rex Harbin; brother, Melvin Milner; parents, Edward and Evie Hornberger; and step-sister, Imogene Wallace.
Visitation for this phenomenal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend will be held Monday, June 19, 2023, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Beaty Funeral Home 5320 S. State Hwy. 37 Mineola, TX. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00am with Pastor James Nickell conducting.
