Obituary for Lucy Jo Mitchell

Lucy Jo Mitchell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at the age of 92. She was born on October 8, 1933, in Dallas, Texas, to Jo Alice Pratley and Eli Pratley (Boots), and spent her later years in Golden, Texas, where she was an active and influential presence in her community.

Lucy will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, having married her beloved husband, Charles "Chuck" Mitchell, in 1951. Lucy and Chuck met and fell in love while at Pleasant Grove High School in Dallas. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, eventually moving to Golden in 1983. Lucy found fulfillment in her role as a homemaker, and her greatest pride stemmed from raising her three daughters, Jill LeMaster, Judy Wood, and Jennifer Crenshaw. She instilled in them the values of resilience and resourcefulness, teaching that one does not always need new possessions to create a fulfilling life.

A woman of great compassion, Lucy dedicated numerous hours to volunteering with Mineola Caring and Sharing and was actively involved in the Golden Sweet Potato Celebration. She cherished her family and found immense joy in traveling to the serene mountains of Colorado and New Mexico, as well as creating lasting memories at their cabins, first at Lake Tawakoni, then Durango, Colorado, and finally in Red River, New Mexico. Known as "Nonnie" by her grandchildren, they brought her endless happiness, and she was fiercely proud of their educational achievements, celebrating the college graduation of all seven of her grandchildren.

As a family-oriented individual, Lucy loved attending her grandchildren's events, especially the thrilling Mineola games. She also delighted in the simple pleasures of life, spending weekends exploring local garage sales and having her family over for home-cooked meals. Baked beans (Nonnie Beans) were her specialty.

To honor Lucy's remarkable life, a memorial service will be held at the Beaty Funeral Home Chapel in Mineola on April 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Cedar Memorial Gardens.

Lucy Jo Mitchell leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community service. She is survived by her three daughters, Jill and her husband Mark, Judy and her husband Walt, and Jennifer and her husband Don; her grandsons, Taylor LeMaster(Ashley), Austin LeMaster, and Jared Crenshaw(Kelsey); and her granddaughters, Autumn Wood Ripperda(Chris), Madelyn Wood(Tyler), Hope Crenshaw Forsyth(Tony), and Annie Crenshaw Amaya(Adam); sister, Dottie Murry(Thomas), brother, Jack Pratley(Donna), sister-in-law, Wanda Corbin(Jimmy). As we gather to celebrate her life, we invite all who knew and loved her to share in the joy she brought to our lives. May her spirit live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, Eli Edgar "Boots" Pratley and Jo Alice Pratley, husband, Chuck Mitchell, and nephew Matthew Murry.
