Margene Saxon Bell

Margene Saxon Bell, age 91 of Winnsboro, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Autumn Wind Assisted Living in Winnsboro.

Born in Winnsboro on October 9, 1923 to Vera Lou Cox Saxon & S. B. (Steve) Saxon, Margene Saxon graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1941 and Castillian School of Beauty Culture in 1952. Married to Ray Bell on June 7, 1952, the couple had three children: Kerry Allen, Stephen Mark (both of Winnsboro), and Raylene (of Wimberley). Margene is survived by her children, four grandchildren (Francie Martin, Jennifer Rossi, Kerry Joe Bell, and Ashley Bell), six great-grandchildren (Colton and Dakota Martin, Keston Durrett, Myah Rossi, Blake Clampitt, and Blakely, Jerod and Cheyenne Bell), and three great-great-grandchildren (Strider and Bradley Martin and Braxton Durrett) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Winnsboro, Mrs. Bell owned and operated Bell’s Beauty Shop for over twenty years and was well known and beloved in the community. An active member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, Margene held local and regional offices in the Ladies Auxiliary of the church, was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and volunteered at Whispering Pines. Margene was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, M.D. and Bryant Saxon.

The family thanks Legacy Hospice and the staff of Autumn Wind Assisted Living Facility, where Margene lived. Special thanks go to Nicole Olsen, Cassandra Sprague, and Donna Wade who were Margene’s primary caretakers, all of whom became close to her heart. Special thanks also to Melissa Simmons, Margene’s long-time friend and fellow hair stylist.

Visitation will be from 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 30 at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Services will be at 2pm on Thursday, October 1 at Winnsboro’s Walnut Street Baptist Church (Brother David Taylor officiating) with burial following at Caney Cemetery, in Pickton, Texas.
