Anne graduated as Valedictorian from Alba-Golden High School in 1957. She was a talented basketball player and was voted Watermelon Princess of Golden. Anne received a BS in Education (with honors) from East Texas State Teachers College in 1960 and her master’s degree in education from East Texas State University in 1981 while working as a full-time teacher.
Anne began her teaching career in Port Arthur, TX in 1960. At this time, she also married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life Ron. She taught elementary school in Beaumont, Houston, and then finally in Mesquite, TX after taking time off to be a full-time Mom. She retired from teaching in 1999 after 23 years of service. Anne had a passion for education and a deep devotion to her students. Her former students would frequently visit Anne and thank her for the impact that she had on their life.
Anne’s primary passion in life was to serve as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She fiercely supported her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. She was an active and engaged mother and grandmother and was always available to help one of her children or grandchildren deal with life's ups and downs. Spending time with her sisters and brother and their families was also one of her greatest joys.
Anne loved God, her family, bird watching, and gardening. She not only loved cultivating a beautiful flower garden in her yard, but also shared her love of nature with her family. She became especially devoted to birding after her retirement, traveling with her love Ron many times to the South Texas World Birding Center on Padre Island, TX. She was a faithful member of White Rock Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School, and Highland Oaks Church of Christ, where she was actively involved in her care group and served by cooking and bringing meals to the sick.
The family would like to thank everyone who was involved in Anne’s care the last several years of her life. Thank you, Visiting Angels, and especially Euretha Ballow, for your love and faithful care as Anne’s personal aide and friend. Thank you also to the aides and nurses at Meadow Lake Senior Living. We couldn’t have done it without you all.
