It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Marilyn Louise Vawter Masch, who peacefully departed this life on August 23, 2025, just one week shy of her 81st birthday. Marilyn was born on August 30, 1944, to the late William "Bill" and Ida Vawter. She was a beloved mother, sister, nurse, and friend whose compassionate spirit touched the lives of many.
Marilyn graduated from Mineola High School in 1962 and went on to attend Tyler Eastern School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree in 1965. Her distinguished career as a surgical and circulating nurse spanned over four decades, during which she demonstrated unwavering dedication and care. Marilyn's commitment to her profession was exemplified through her service at various hospitals across the country, including her notable work in the open-heart surgery department at Rowlett General Hospital., attending to the victims of the Oklahoma City Bombing at St. Anthony's Hospital in 1995.
In 1996, Marilyn continued her nursing journey at St. Joseph's Hospital in Portland, Oregon, before returning to Tyler, Texas, to work with the surgical department at UT Medical Center, where she retired in 2010. Her career was marked by her compassionate approach and her ability to bring comfort to her patients and colleagues alike.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Mark Masch, and her brother, Tom Vawter. She leaves behind a loving family son Scott Masch, grandson Austin Masch, and many friends who cherish her memory and the kindness she shared throughout her life.
Marilyn Louise Vawter Masch's life was a testament to dedication, compassion, and service. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love and care she gave to everyone around her. *Rest in peace, Marilyn *
