Maylene Johnson

January 21, 1927 — April 16, 2024

Marion Maylene Johnson, of Yantis, Texas, beloved wife, mother, Grandmommie, and servant of

the Lord, departed from this world and entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on April 16,

2024. Born on January 21, 1927, to the proud parents of John Truman and Frances (Grimes)

Cook, Maylene's legacy is marked by her selfless, nurturing spirit, and embodiment of what it

means to follow Christ.

As part of the great generation, Maylene’s upbringing could have been perceived as lacking and

humble. However, she described her younger years as happy and blessed. This positive outlook

laid the solid foundation for a bountiful, well-lived life. She was a natural born leader who quietly

influenced others.

Maylene graduated from Lewisville High in 1944. On January 10, 1947, she united in marriage

with the love of her life, Ronald D. Johnson, beginning a remarkable journey together that

spanned 59 years until Ron's passing in 2006.

Maylene was a dedicated employee of Mountain View College from 1974 – 1991 serving as

Assistant Director of Financial Aid before her retirement. During her tenure, she was well

regarded and received multiple awards including Outstanding Service and Employee of the

Year. In 1992, Maylene and Ron retired to the Yantis community on Lake Fork where they

enjoyed hosting family, friends, and of course, fishing.

Her most cherished role was that of matriarch of the Johnson family. She never missed an event

and had the stunning ability to make each family member feel like the center of her world.

Maylene could always be found in the football stands watching her boys play and her daughter

perform. After becoming a grandmother, the tradition continued attending recitals, games, and

celebrations.

Maylene's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She enjoyed the study of God’s Word and

serving others in their time of need. Maylene was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church

of Yantis and served tirelessly in numerous capacities. From teaching Sunday School to

directing Vacation Bible School, leading Ladies Bible Study, and nurturing the young souls at

children's church, Maylene's commitment to her faith was unmatched and recognized by all who

knew her. After suffering a stroke in 2022, when her words failed to come out as intended, she

was still able to pray aloud without falter. Even as she entered hospice care, she prayed for the

nurse who had a friend suffering from cancer.

Maylene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Cook, her beloved husband,

Ronald D. Johnson, her brothers Ernest Cook and Charles Cook, and her sister, Bobbie Sexton.

She is survived by her devoted children, Gary Johnson and wife Jana, Glenn Johnson and wife

Sonya, and Rhonda Medders and husband Rob, her sister, El Dora Logston, grandchildren Jara

D’Souza, Jamee Nitschke, Casey Johnson, Spencer Johnson, Sumner Johnson, Katie Powers,

Kyle Medders, Kole Medders; great-grandchildren Jena D’Souza, Parker Johnson, Hadley

Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
