Marlena Christine Sly

Marlena Christine Sly was born in Los Angeles California on February 20, 1948 and died of natural causes on May 5, 2012. She is survived by her life partner Barbara Hums, brother Leland Douglas Sly, sister-in-law Kathy Sly, nieces and nephews Lisa Nelson, Benjamin Sly, Rebecca Sly, Joshua Sly, Katherine Sly and Alexandria Sly and cousins Daniel Nelson, Jeffrey Nelson, Cory Nelson, Julia Nelson, Karlee Sly, Madison Sly and Landry Sly. She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Chapman Sly, mother Ingrid Svenson, sister Lenore (Hunt) Sly and nephew Eric Sly.

Marlena graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Idaho State University. She spent her years in nursing in the areas of Obstetrics, General Med Surge and most recently in Hospice care. Marlena was an exceptional nurse and provided excellent care throughout her career for all who had the good fortune of being her patient.

She was kind in spirit and generously gave to the following charities: KERA public media station, World Vision, she supported 7 underprivileged children, National Women's History Museum, SPCA (Society for the protection of animals). Marlena resided in the following cities: Long Beach, CA, Idaho, Seattle WA, Cincinnati, OH and Vashon Island. She loved photography, gardening, music, art, time with friends, wonderful food, played the accordion and loved the ocean.

Marlena saw life threw a special lens. Her spirit was light and carefree. She had a unique and giving nature and never hesitated to offer donations, love and caring to all she met. She made a difference to her friends, family, neighbors and the patients she cared for. Her spirit will live on in those she touched.

A memorial service will be held Sunday May 13 at 3:00 P.M. at the Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro Texas. A reception will be held immediately following the memorial service at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts.

Marlena was a supporter of Women's rights and foundations in support of the fair treatment of animals and many music venues. Please provide donations to either the Winnsboro Humane Society or Mt.
