Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Marshall Montgomery and Janet McGarvie Munn Montgomery of Greenock Scotland; her husband William Robert Boan, her sisters, Margaret McGarvie Montgomery Fisher and Robert Ina Montgomery Tillery, and her granddaughter Tracy Ann Boyden. Mary was born in St John New Brunswick, Canada. The family then moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she spent her adolescence. She met and married William Robert Boan in October 1935. Their four children were born while living in Baltimore. William worked in the development of stainless steel, which led to their moving to Port Colborne, Ontario where William worked for Atlas Steel Corporation. In 1956 they moved to Connecticut, eventually settling in Newtown, Connecticut where they lived until 1973. William died in 1980 and Mary moved to Texas, first to the Dallas area and then to Holly Lake Ranch. While in Canada Mary was a member of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire and active in their activities. Mary loved dogs. Her father raised Irish Setters while they lived in Canada. While living in Connecticut, she enjoyed breeding and raising Scottish Terriers and showing them competitively. She always had at least one dog in her home and was devoted to their care. Mary was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed roses. Her home in Connecticut had many rose beds, and throughout her life enjoyed the outdoors and working in her gardens. She shared this love of plants and gardening with her children and her grandchildren. Mary maintained a strong faith in the Lord and membership in the local church was an essential part of life where she served and supported many of the missionaries. Additionally she supported many organizations that promoted the welfare of children in need and help for rescue animals. Mary faithfully watch the TV every Friday to see the rescue pups available with Paws for Pets. She would prefer a donation to that organization than flowers. Her own “daisy” of 17 yeas preceded her in death by 4 days A private family graveside service for her will be held Friday August 20 at Holly Tree Cemetery.
