Mary Jean Lookadoo

Mary Gross Lookadoo - June 27, 1942 – May 9, 2024

Mary Gross Lookadoo was born June 27, 1942 in Lockney, Texas and was the daughter of George and

Lucille Gross. She graduated West Texas State University in 1964 with her Bachelors of Science in

Education. In 1984, she earn her Masters of Education Leadership, and in 1985 she attained her

Superintendent’s Certification.

In 1963, she married the love of her life, Frank Lookadoo. After moving to Flint, Texas in 1965, she began working for Frankston ISD, as a teacher and later went on to become the Curriculum Director. She was Superintendent of Schools for Murchison ISD and at Mineola ISD before retiring in May 2012. She was named the Region VII Superintendent of the Year for 2005.  She also ran for State Representative for District 5 for Texas in 2012.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank Lookadoo. Her parents, George and Lucille Gross, sister Linda Gossett, brothers Johnny and Pete Gross. Her in-laws, Jewell and JR Triplett, as well as her sister-in-law Linda Kay Lookadoo and nephew James Davenport.

She is survived by daughter Michelle Miller and husband Kent, son Justin Lookadoo and wife Kelly. Her grandchildren, Tate Miller and wife Haley, Trent Miller, Aliyeh Lookadoo, Jeremy Lookadoo, Isaiah Lookadoo, Eli Singleton and Gentry Singleton. Brother-in-law Bud Gossett and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their amazing support and care.  In lieu of flower, donations can be made to the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation, 7925 S. Broadway Ave. Unit 1140, Tyler, Tx. 75703.

The family would also like to thank the outstanding staff at Wesley House in Lindale for their superb care and love shown to Mother throughout this time. Ricky and Karen Stacy for all their support throughout the years. Special thanks to Logan Merritt from Physio+ and Lisa Bogenschutz for their loving kindness, as well.

A private family memorial will be scheduled at a later time.
