Mary Gay Moon (Herrington)

Mary Gay Moon, a long-time resident of Winnsboro, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on June 14, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on May 7, 1932, in Bay Springs, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late John Owen Herrington Sr. and Carrie Thigpen Herrington.

Mary had a deep passion for sewing and was an avid reader, finding particular enjoyment in the works of authors such as Janet Daily and John Grisham.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Jane Parker, Ethel Eugene Flannigan, and Dorothy Virginia Glenn, as well as her son, Frank Cydel Whatley.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Peggy Fox of Irving, Texas, and Melisa Moon of Odessa, Texas; her brother, John Owen Herrington Jr.; her niece, Vivian Diane McCaskil; four grandchildren, Christian Parrish, Michael Parrish, Cassie Parrish and Dustin Fox of Irving, Tx; and one great-grandchild, Ashtyn Parrish. Mary's quiet strength and love for her family will be deeply missed.
