Mary Margret Smith

December 3, 1920 — February 22, 2013

Mary Margret Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior Feb 22, 2013. A service celebrating her life will be in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church at her home church in Mineola on Monday Feb 25 at 11:00 AM. Mary was born in Cleburne, TX on Dec 3, 1920. Her greatest loves were her Lord, her family her church and her friends. She was forever aware of God’s presence in her life. During her parents lifetime, Mary was the attentive and loving caregiver. She was also a proud supporter of her siblings, especially her five brothers who served in our country’s military forces in WWII. She showed equal pride in her younger siblings, Dorothy and Bobby. Mary was a lifelong Methodist. She sang in the choir all her adult life; was a popular counselor to the youth, and later served as a teacher in the children’s department. Many of the youth have kept in touch with her through the years because of the influence she had on their lives. Mary represented the City of Mineola in the Texas pageant in 1939; she served as secretary of the Meredith Foundation Board and was an officer in the Pilot Club

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, former Mayor, Joe J. Smith, Sr. and Ciddie Head Smith; her brothers, Jody, Everett, Glenn and Bobby, nieces and nephews, Corley McCreary, Beverly Prestidge , Pat Patterson and Mariel Smith.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy McCreary and husband Bob of Tyler, her brother, Don Smith and his wife Peggy of Mineola, Lamar Smith and his wife Beverly of Ft. Worth; sisters-in-law, Katie Smith of Edna, Martha Smith of Dallas, Betty Smith Ratliff of Tyler and a host of admiring nieces and nephews, friends and their families.

Special expressions of gratitude go to Mary’s friends, young and old for their visits and support of Mary and Mary’s sister, Dorothy , her devoted and loving caregiver.

Her nephews will be her pallbearers: Rick Smith, Jim Smith, Joe Smith, Tom McCreary, Steve McCreary, Edward Smith, Hudge Smith and Nelson Jones.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mineola or the Charity of your choice.
