Matthew Harkins

Matthew "Matt" Charles Harkins, 41 of Dallas, died Saturday, March 28 2020 in Rains County. Matt was born in Terrell, Tx. on Thursday, May 11, 1978 to Betty Jane (Collier) Harkins and Arthur Charles Harkins. He lived his life mostly in Kemp and Kaufman areas having graduated from Kaufman High School where he was very involved with the FFA. In 2000 he joined the Texas Army Guard, 49th Armored, Company A, 112th in Kaufman. His unit was called up and was deployed to Afghanistan, where he spent the next 14 months. Upon returning from the war zone he was a police officer for the cities of Wilmer, East Tawakoni and Hutchins. Matt enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with his friends. He was Episcopalian by faith and was a member of Our Merciful Savior Episcopal Church of Kaufman. Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents and step-mother Ann Harkins, his son Austin Harkins of Garland, his daughter Ashley Harkins also of Garland and one sister Stacey Harkins of Waco, other family and many loving friends. Matt had a great laugh, a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 2:00 pm with James Cohagen officiating in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Program or St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Lindale, 16292 FM 849, Lindale, TX 75771.
