Joann Shadwick was born in Greenville, Texas, on May 31, 1937, to the late Riley Jackson Bench and Hazel Dell Gilmer Bench. She began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1962 and retired after 38 years of service. Joann made lifelong treasured friends there including the love of her life Wayne. She loved her family and especially her three beautiful daughters. Joann was very adventurous. She lived life to the fullest and traveled many places around the world. Joann loved water skiing, riding motorcycles, and watching the kids in all of their activities. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and sitting out by her pool. Mrs. Shadwick was an excellent cook and baker. She made everyone their favorite Birthday cake and special Christmas candy every year. She loved her Dallas Cowboys and attended many of their football games including several Super Bowls. Joann enjoyed getting in her car and driving through the years and her favorite cars were Cadillacs. She passed away on June 18, 2023, after a 14-year battle with dementia. Many thanks to Wesley Oaks Memory Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for all their compassionate care given to our mom the last 4 1/2 years. Joann was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Shadwick; parents; great grandson Matthew Brewton, grandson Christopher Harman, granddaughter Rachel Harman; and her first love J.L. Puyear. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-laws, Bettie and Ricky Hicks, Jean and Mike Harman, Lisa and Dennis Hunt; brother Dan Carroll Bench; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and loved family members.
