Michael Powell

October 5, 1982 — November 7, 2025

Michael Douglas Powell began his life's journey on October 5, 1982. He was born in Tyler, Texas, to Mark and Patricia Powell. He passed from this life to life eternal on November 7, 2025.

Michael was a happy and curious baby and little boy. He loved spending time in the shop with his dad and learning all the mechanical things his dad taught him. He also loved spending time riding bikes, swimming, and building forts with his next-door neighbor friends Carl and Kyle Cates.

Michael received his true calling at about age 9 when our next-door neighbor's house burned and he watched the Dixie Volunteer Fire Dept put out the fire. From that time on, he wanted to be a Firefighter and paramedic. At age 12, he wanted his parents to let him join Dixie VFD and to take him out to fires in the middle of the night. He had to wait until he could take himself, but the minute he was 16 and got his driver's license and his first truck, he was at the fire department every possible minute. He would make fire calls in the middle of the night and then get up and go to classes during his high school years. Michael attended T.K. Gorman High School and was a proud member of the drum line with his best friend Jeff Freeman. He also attended TJC during high school and earned his basic EMT certification before he graduated from high school. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He also worked at ETMC as an ER tech during high school.

Michael graduated from TJC with his Associates degree in Health Science and a certification as a Paramedic. He worked for ETMC as a paramedic on an ambulance and loved that fast paced environment. He then tested and was accepted as a firefighter with Longview Fire Dept and worked there for several years.

Michael later decided to go back to school and become a nurse since he could earn more. He completed the Paramedic to RN transition program and went to work for Christus at the Heart Hospital for about 18 months but missed the fast paced environment of the ER.

At about the same time he met the love of his life on 10/9/2019. Christina Brunson was her name and she was lovely in every way. The fell in love at that first meeting and from that day forward they never wanted to be apart. They married on 12/12/2020 and started their life together. The bought a new home in Winnsboro TX since that was Christina's home town and Michael was working in the ER at Paris Regional. They were pet parents to some very lucky Bassett hounds, Lily, Logan, and Lucy. They later added Dixie to the group. Michael and Chrissy were homebodies and enjoyed watching movies but they loved going on their annual vacation to the same spot where they had honeymooned in North Carolina. But their life together was cut short when Christina went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2022. Michael was still grieving for her when he went home to be with the Lord on November 7.

Michael became a follower of Jesus Christ at an early age at Pine Cove Christian camp in Tyler Texas and was baptized at his home church of Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church. Michael is at now at peace and is now reunited with his beloved Christina. Michael is survived by his parents Mark and Patricia Powell, 2 aunts, 5 cousins, and extended family and friends. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents- Douglas and Pauline Isham, Maurice and Marilyn Powell, his uncle David Isham, and his great grandparents-Henry and Vivian Douglas and Oma Dell Powell.

Michael is waiting with Christina in heaven to welcome his family into heaven with him. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

If desired, gifts in Michael's memory may be made to the Winnsboro Volunteer Fire Dept.
