Mildred Clay

February 23, 1927 — December 26, 2020

Mildred Howell Clay, age 93 of Mineola, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020, in Grand Saline TX. She was born February 23, 1927, in Ft. Worth TX to the late Robert Edgar Howell and Mabel Mildred Scott Howell. While living in Arlington TX, Mildred was a secretary for Warner Lambert. During retirement, Mildred and husband J.W. moved to Mineola. Following J.W.'s passing in 2005, Mildred continued to stay active spiritually, mentally, socially, and physically. She was a member of Lake Country Bible Church and dearly loved her Lord and her church family. Mildred challenged herself by working crossword and jigsaw puzzles; watching Jeopardy; and, from memory, listing the 50 states, including capitals and abbreviations. She was a member of the Lake Brenda Women's Association, lived in a wonderful neighborhood with many special and caring friends, and enjoyed Bunco and league bowling. Mildred appreciated visitors..."come on in here!"... and adored children, dogs (especially her Courtney), birds, flowers ... all of God's creations. Although Mildred loved her independence, she knew when to stop driving (but still renewed her driver's license...just in case). She kept up with the Dallas Cowboys and politics. She was proud of our flag and the USA; after Mildred voted this year, she said "well, God is in charge of everything that happens around us, so there's nothing to worry about." Mildred will be remembered for her perpetual smile, delightful personality, and positive attitude. During her recent hospital stay, Mildred said, "It's been a good life!" She was preceded in death by husband J.W. Clay; stepdaughter Carol Clay Williams; step-grandson Justin Clay Williams; brother Robert; sister Ruth; and many special relatives and friends. She is survived by her son Larry Mosley and wife Rita of Denton, TX; granddaughter Jennifer Mosley Puz and husband Paul of Los Angeles, CA; brother-in-law Shelby Clay and wife Lori of Mineola TX; sister-in-law Nedra Belew and husband Terry of Olney TX; and nieces, nephews, and friends. Pastor Craig Lacy will conduct Mildred's funeral service on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at 2:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home, 5320 S. State Hwy 37, Mineola TX. Family and friends extend a special thanks to caregivers from Heart to Heart Hospice, Country Trails Wellness and Rehab, and UT Health (Quitman) for their kindness to and compassionate care of Mildred. At Mildred's request, please consider memorials to Lake Country Bible Church, P.O. Box 866, Mineola TX 75773.
