Mona Rheu Brown

Mona Rheu Brown, known to everyone as "Nanny", departed this life on August 8, 2023. She was born on October 29, 1933, in Port Lavaca, Texas, to the late Verbal and Alpha (Edwards) Cassel. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and member of One Church in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. Mona enjoyed fishing, digging up the soil in her garden, skiing, and creating beautiful quilts her family cherished. Mrs. Brown married the love of her life Jesse Frank Brown on June 11, 1954, and the two of them shared 64 years together before his passing in 2018. Mrs. Brown was also preceded in death by daughter Judy Carol Kirkpatrick; granddaughter Cari Layne Kirkpatrick; brothers Verbal "Buddy" Cassel and Carl Cassel. She is survived by daughters Carolyn Diviney, Ramona Smith, Chris Ireland (Danny); son Jesse Don Brown (Sheryl); 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildrern and many numerous other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 11th at Beaty Funeral Home. Graveside will follow in Harmony Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with Bro. L.D. Baxley officiating.
