Noval Exel Black

September 2, 1916 — April 5, 2012

Mrs. Noval Exel "Dot" Black, of Winnsboro, passed from this life on April 5, 2012 at the age of 95. She was born on September 2, 1916, at Black Oak, Texas, to the late James Henry and Roxie Lena Gossett. She was preceded in death by Lloyd Black, her husband of 76 years, and her brother, George Gossett; sisters, Mabel Thurman and Opal Attaway; grandson, Bart Roberts; and a son-in-law, Roger Barkley. She is survived by a son, Larry Black and his wife Martha of Scroggins; daughters, Joy Barkley of Burleson and Elceone Roberts and husband Johnny of Santa Fe. Survivors also include grandchildren, Scott Barkley and wife Pam of Burleson, Sherrie Owens and husband Jayson of Burleson, Valarie Barkley and Brenda Isbel of Burleson, Kevin Roberts and wife Allison of Abilene, Misty Rogers and husband Mark of Frisco, Brad Rose of Mt. Vernon, Greg Rose and wife Angela of Granbury, Rusty Rose and wife Rachael of Shady Shores and Kenny Rose and wife Adrianna of Murphy. Mrs. Black also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Mary English of Duncan, OK; a brother-in-law Cloy Black and wife Elaine of Baton Rouge, LA; 23 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Mrs. Black was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and a loving wife and mother. She devoted her life to serving God and taking care of her family and friends. She enjoyed playing the piano and taught music lessons to numerous students from her home and at the New Hope and South Franklin Schools. Visitation will be at the Beaty FUneral Home in Winnsboro on Monday, April 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10 at Beaty Funeral Home, with burial following at Bethel Cemetery. Her son, Larry Black, will be conducting, assisting will be grandsons, Scott Barkley, Kevin Roberts, and Rusty Rose. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Noval Black had a quiet spirit and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her because to know her was to love her.
