Obie Corley died Friday, October 9, 2026 just like he lived-- going 150 miles an hour.
Obie was so much larger than life, words on a page cannot do justice to his monumental presence in the lives of his family and friends and the passion with which he lived every day.
Obie was born on May 17, 1974 and grew up in Mineola, graduating high school in 1992. Obie married Melanie Kane with her young son, and together they had three more sons and a daughter who were Obie's driving force for the rest of his life.
Because he could never work for anyone else, he found disaster recovery work in 2004. He bartered his Harley for a dump trailer to pull behind his pickup. Eventually, Obie and Melanie started Aftermath Disaster Recovery. Those humble beginnings have grown into a fleet of trucks, barges, equipment, and a team of men he sees as part of his family. All of Obie's working-aged kids work in the family business, thriving alongside him. Aftermath became a metaphor for his whole life-- provider, faithful, strong, chaotic, dependable, demanding. While his business was in his DNA, he also forced time to allow him his passions for deep sea fishing, hunting, guns and fast trucks.
He was a fiercely loyal son, friend, father, grandfather, and husband. He loved Jesus and Mel in the same way-- arguing with them both about what was best for him.
He is survived by his momma, Linda Dodson and step-dad Joe Lindell Dodson, his dad Robert Randy Corley and wife Shirley Corley, brother Toby Corley, and sister Norma Jo Crutcher with her husband Michael. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those of us who don't quite know how to live without him are his wife Melanie, sweet pea Mallory, sons Cole, Jackson (Bella), Reese (Mariah) and Adam Gonzalez (Erin), and grandson, Buddy.
