Peggy "Sue" Spence
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggy Sue Spence. Surrounded by her loving family, she left this world on August 16, 2026 to go be with her Lord and Savior.
"Sue" was born December 28, 1944, in Winnsboro, Texas, to the late W.P. Gillis and Edna Cora Caviness
On March 8, 1961, Sue married the love of her life, Cary Laverne Spence. Together, they built a life and raised a family that would become her greatest joy and legacy.
Sue was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. For 50 years, she worked as a hairdresser, and during those years, many of the people who sat in her chair became much more than customers-they became lifelong friends.
Sue loved gardening and being outdoors. She found happiness in working with her hands, tending to her plants, and enjoying the simple beauty of being outside.
Her faith was an important part of her life. Sue was an active member of Pineview Baptist Church, where she worshipped, served, and treasured the fellowship of her church family.
Sue was the proud mother of five children: The late Cary Lynn Spence and his wife Crystal ; Tammy Swann and husband Scott; Toni Smith and husband Don; Kevin "George" Spence and wife Anne; and Lynda Spence.
She was blessed with 12 grandchildren Taylor, Maghan, Logan, Chris, Hunter, Lance, Keaton, Mason, Marcus, Ashley, Alex, and Sara, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, W.P. and Cora Gillis, her brother, Roddy Gillis; and her beloved son, Cary Lynn Spence, who passed away on August 26, 2025.
Sue's life cannot be measured simply by the years she lived, but by the family she raised, the people she cared for, the friendships she made, the seeds she planted, and the love she leaves behind. Her family will forever remember the woman who helped make them who they are, and her memory will live on through the generations that follow her.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
