Pinkie Lue McGill was the 7th child born to Estella and Bee Moil Benard. She was born in Webster, Texas on Saturday, April 20, 1940. Like her brothers and sisters, she attended Dunbar Elementary School in Winnsboro, Texas. After her sophomore year she left the school, but not her commitment to education. Pinkie earned her GED and continued her education with vocational studies. Her focus centered around health. She became a nurse’s aid and served in the field of home health care. They were skills used to not only serve people in Sulphur Springs and Wood County area nursing homes as an LVN, but also to serve family. She was dedicated to assisting others, especially children.
Pinkie was a Den Mother for a Cub Scout group in Winnsboro, and she worked with the children of Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Como, Texas in the Sandfield Community. She was a part of that church from the time she was a child and it remained in her heart until her passing. Her father was a Deacon there. People most remember her time spent working with the youth for Vacation Bible School.
While she is remembered by many for that, others will remember her for what she did in the kitchen. Pinkie was known for cooking food that was so satisfying you were even excited about leftovers, and she baked cakes and pies that brought smiles to many faces.
Among her favorite pastimes were dominoes, checkers, and bingo. She was known as the Bingo Queen where she last resided, and she played dominoes and checkers until 10 days before she passed.
Two people with whom she was united in marriage survive: Excellent McGill, Jr and Samuel David Friday II.
She is preceded in death by her father Bee Moil Benard, her mother Estella Benard and 7 seven brothers and sisters: Barclay Benard, JB Benard, and Gaston Benard all of Amarillo, TX; Mae Lovingood of El Paso, TX; Myrtie B. Fletcher of Winnsboro, TX; and Orbree Dixon of Tucson, AZ.
She birthed five children: Virgil Dixon of Oakland, CA; Estell Lenita Johnson of Kansas City, MO; Samuel David Friday III of Winnsboro, TX; Dexter Morris Friday of Muncie, IN; and Charles Anthony McGill of Hephzibah, GA. She is survived by them and grandchildren including Trae Shaun Sims, Natalie Rene Mitchell, Nathan Brice Friday, Karringtyn Anne McGill and Charles Anthony McGill Jr. In addition, she leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
