R.C. Grimes

January 7, 1924 — June 21, 2016

R. C. Grimes, 92, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. He was born on January 7, 1924, in Riley Springs, Texas to Hubert and Pearl (Caldwell) Grimes.

He is survived by two sons, Russell Grimes (and wife Judy) of Pickton, Texas and Tommy (and wife LaSha) of Manvel, Texas. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Adam Grimes of Manvel, Texas, Christina Waters (and husband Mike) of Levelland, Texas, and Katie Grimes of Alvin, Texas and three great grandchildren Tristan and Addison Waters and Kaitlyn Grimes.

He has three step-grandchildren Tanya Anderson of Tomball, Texas, William Weldon of Clear Lake Shores, Texas and Lisa Jones of Pearland, Texas; and two step-great-grandchildren Greysen Wolfe and Hailey White.

R. C. is also survived by his brother Bill Grimes of Pickton, Texas, his sister Della Faye Goode (and husband Milton) and sister-in-law Annie Ruth Grimes.

R. C. was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Edith. He was also preceded in death by his brother Walter Grimes, his step-brother Jack Turner, and sister-in-law Margie Grimes.

R. C. or (“Pop”) as he was known to all leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

R. C. and Edith were long-time residents of Pearland, Texas where R. C. retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad after 33 years of service as a billing clerk. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, playing 42 and spending time with friends and family. Special pleasures included spending time at their trailer in Pickton, Texas and catering to the grandchildren.

R.C. was a veteran of WW II having served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. He served aboard the USS Catron and was present at the signing of the Armistice in Tokyo Bay.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. and the service will be at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Sandy Hubbell and the staff at Autumn Winds for their excellent care of “Pop.”
