Rhudolph Lafon Dorrough, age 84, died Friday, February 11, 2011 in Paris, Texas. He was born on Saturday, September 25, 1926 in Elk City, Oklahoma to the late Victor and Jessie Dorrough. He graduated from Gladewater High School in 1944. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and was discharged in 1947. He graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in 1948 and became a licensed director/embalmer. He graduated from the DPS Academy and became a highway patrolman in Cartrhage, Gladewater and Bonham, Texas where he served for over 32 years. He enjoyed flying and was a member of the Blue and Gold Society, Founders Circle, and the Heritage Society at Texas A&M Commerce. He was a 33rd Degree Mason having been raised in Gladewater Masonic Lodge No. 852. In June of 1963, he was installed as the Fiftieth Worshipful Master of Gladewater Lodge. In December 1964 he served as the District Deputy Grand Master for the tenth Masonic District for 1965 and again in 1969. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, a charter member of the Sharon Shrine in Tyler, Texas, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter in Clarksville, Texas and Eastern Star Chapter No. 1045 in Deport, Texas. On December 2, 1988 he became an endowed member of Gladewater Lodge. He received his Masonic Fifty Year pin on August 31, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Waters Dorrough of Clarksville, Texas; son Carl Dorrough and wife Leslie of Longview, Texas; daughter, Carla Pavelka of Hewitt, Texas; three grandchildren, Ethan, Darbi and Quaid Dorrough of Longview and numerous other family and friends.
